More trophies for Van Amersfoort Racing in the Third Round of the Formula Winter Series
Last week, our team was in Alcañiz, Spain, at Motorland Aragón, for the third round of the Formula Winter Series. After a successful weekend in Valencia, the team also managed to take home some more trophies at Aragón.
Maximilian Popov started the first race of the weekend on the right foot, and finished in P4, scoring valuable points for the team. Gino Trappa ended during his last race weekend with the team in P13. Payton Westcott had a really strong drive, and gained twelve places, ending up in P15. Dante Vinci unfortunately endured some unlucky moments, and finished in P20.

In the second race of the weekend, Max managed to score some more good points for the team and the championship. He ended up in P5, and with the updated results he took home a second P4 finish. Gino got promoted from a P16 to a P15. After a good first race, the second race ended very unfortunate with a DNF for Payton. Dante found good rhythm and speed in this race, and ended P9. In the rookie standings he finished P3, which meant the first podium for the team.
For the last race of the weekend, Max finished in P4 for the third time. He took a lot of points home from Aragón. The conditions were tricky for the third race, but the team made a really good strategy call, and Payton showed really good speed. She ended in P13, and won the female trophy. Gino wanted to end his time at Van Amersfoort Racing on a high, but the tricky conditions only allowed him to finish in P25. Dante also did not end the weekend the way he wanted, and ended in P16.

The last round of the Formula Winter Series will take place in Barcelona at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend. There is all to play for with multiple drivers still having a chance at the championship. You can watch all the action live on the official Formula Winter Series Youtube channel and on the VAR socials.
Maximilian Popov - Formula 4 driver, Van Amersfoort Racing:
“Good work from us, but a bit of a disappointing outcome. I’ve made some track limits in qualifying and had to start lower than we could, but we made really solid races out of it. Two P4 finishes for us in the first races. I was really chasing the victory starting from 8th in race 3, but had an issue, which cost us a lot on straights, so ended up in P4 again. Anyway, incredible job from the team this weekend, we are still in the fight for the championship so let’s go for it in Barcelona.”
Dante Vinci - Formula 4 driver, Van Amersfoort Racing:
“Thanks to the team for the support and hard work this weekend! Not the ideal round for us, but we still walked away with points and a rookie podium.”
Payton Westcott - Formula 4 driver, Van Amersfoort Racing:
“It was a weekend full of highs and challenges. Practice went well, and I felt strong, but qualifying didn’t quite come together as I struggled with pace. Race 1 was a highlight, making up 12 positions and showing what was possible. Race 2 was unfortunate after getting taken out early, but there’s always something to learn. Race 3 brought tricky conditions, but my team made a great call to go on wets. Giving me a strong advantage over the rest of the field, and helping me win the female trophy. However my focus remains on earning points for myself and the team. I’m excited for Barcelona.”
